Reidy's Lures at competitions

17 Oct, 2012

I came first in the Classic Lures Peter Faust Evening Event  which is an ABT Barra event, held on Friday and Saturday the 28th and 29th of September.
I was the only angler to catch my bag of 5 Barra each day and 2 Barra were caught on Big B52's and 8 were caught on Judge's.

I came 4th at the Killalure Teemburra Dam Evening Event held on Monday and Tuesday the 1st and 2nd of October.
Two Barra were caught on B52's and one was caught on your Weedies modified.  I fitted a TT Revhead Jighead and fitted a rattle and added garlic dipping dye.

For Northern Angler of the Year Johny Millard and Myself finished on the same points and Johny Won via a countback.
The rules are if there is a tie then the highest placed angler in the last event wins.  I came 4th and Johny came 2nd, it would have been nice to win for us .

The Southern Rounds of the ABT start at the end of November.

Cheers Peter.

1st September Bass Fishing

02 Oct, 2012

The 1st of September came around and I was keener than ever to get out bass fishing. The kayaks were rigged up and ready for launch. We set off paddling up the creek as the sun came up over the horizon. I was flicking a Reidy's Little Lucifer Export, on my 2-5lb spin rod, 2000 sized reel and 2 lb braid. This light gear added to the fun when you hooked up to a healthy bass.

The main thing to remember when bass fishing is to cast the lure as close to structure as possible to increase your chances of a fish. The retrieve I use for the Little Lucifer is a steady slow wind. The Lures provide a good wobble, and start diving instantaneously which if perfect for bass fishing. I pulled up to a nice log that just over hanged the water, cast the Reidy's Little Lucifer Export lure out and it landed perfectly under the log, I commence winding, two cranks of the reel and bang! I was hooked up to a nice bass. The drag of the reel was screaming as the bass tried to make its way back to the sticks. After an epic fight I had the fish yak side. It was a nice 38 cm bass, a good fish to open up the season, even better on 2lb braid!

Cheers

Aidan

Fishing for Barramundi in the Gulf of Carpenteria

18 Sep, 2012

The fishing had been fairly ordinary with not a lot of echoes on the sounder the day before. The water had cleared up considerably from the muddy murky colour and the tides were generally outgoing in the mornings usually allowing a session of trolling in 3-5 meters. The wind dropped during the day which made the daytime temperature of approx 26-30 degrees hot but comfortable with adequate protective clothing. The temperature was neither too hot nor requiring of excessive protective clothing; mostly shorts, shirt and a hat (or a cap for the captain). The water temperature was 23.5 degrees.
